When I try to open the attached excel file, my pc tries to open the file with trial version of excel

I have tried to used the professional excel is the default file for excel but I can find it to match against the excel file

    redalpha,

Sounds like you either have an illegal version of excel, only you would know this?

Or you may have 2 versions of excel installed.

For example: When you buy a new PC Microsoft usually put a trial version of excel on the machine to encourage you to buy the full version (this only lasts for 28 days), when you and if you buy the full version depending how you install it and where you install it, sometimes it duplicates the installation, leaving a FULL version of excel installed in one location and the original or a trial version of excel stored in another.

It's possible your e-mail client is trying to open the file with the original default trial version.

Take a look first of all in your installed programs and see if there is a duplicate, if so, remove it.
Also try opening the version of excel that works, saving the file sent to you via email to your desktop first and then opening the file direct from the working excel which is already open.

    Mike

    Thanks

I purchased Professional Office package directly from Microsoft via a download. The company I used to work had this deal with Microsoft allowing employees to purchase professional products at a deep discount

I deleted the older version of office but my problem still remains, I can find a way to make excel the default program for excel program that are downloaded. I can create and send excel files but not open them directly. On downloads I need to save them then open in excel

Thanks to all for the input

I got input from so co workers, the correct excel file was hidden ( not sure why)

In windows I made the hidden files visible and then I could make excel the default program for excel files
