    Sports Ladder Required

    Hi All,

Im looking for an excel sports ladder but im not sure if my requirements are possible.

Im thinking it would be 2 seperate worksheets.

The first being a list of people signed up to the ladder.. (Could be up to 200 people)
The idea bieng i put the number beside each players name of which mini table i want the player in.

The second worksheet is where is gets tricky. There would be multiple mimi tables say 20 tables.
Each of those tables may not have the same number of players, some might have 5 but others may just have 4. But the max would be 6.
You enter the points each player receives for a match.
Then the excel would give you a total score for each player in each table.

Anyone know if this is possible or where i could find such a table ????
Im useless when it comes to Excel.

    Any help appreciated

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

That's not a huge amount of information to go on.

What sport are we talking about here?
Where do you plan on recording the scores?
How do you decide which of the possible 200 participants gets allocated to which table?
If the question above is done manually and all you need is scores to total for each player then it's not difficult to do at all.

Yup it would all be manual really....Sorry just updated original post.

To start with i would be deciding who goes in what table.
The reason it would be manual is that new players could join at any stage and may need to be slotted in anywhere on the ladder.

Yes i guess i just looking to score each player in the mini tables and then i would manually adjust the name list each month to update what tables the players should go in.
The reason i thought it might be difficult is that some tables might have 4/5/6 players...But i guess if each table just had 6 places some could be blank.

So if its not that difficult where could i find such a table :0)

It would be simple enough by the sound of it to create your own. Probably quicker than hunting around for a ready made one that you'd more than likely have to alter to fit your needs 100% anyway.

If you can draft what you mean in a workbook, i.e. design what you want it to look like and explain where you will be recording scores and where you want them added up, then attach it here I will gladly help you with the formula side of things.

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

Cheers....heres what i have in mind with up to 30 divisions required

With the match results manually entered but the totals being automatic.

Actually instead of the totals being just accumulated scores if it could be 3 points if one player scores more points than the other that would be even better.

Player 1 v Player 2 ...Player 1 (10) ..Player 2 (8)...Then the total for player 1 would be 3 points and player 2 would get 1 point that would be super

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

So you will enter the scores manually and all you need is a way of looking up the names and contact details based on which divison you allocate them to on the first sheet?

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

correct...but if possible update the total column in the second sheet.

I would enter the scores manually.....So say player 1 beats player 2 by a score of 10-8....then in the total column player 1 would get 3 points for a win and player 2 would get 1 point for playing that would be great

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

That's a different scoring system to the one it looks like you've put in already.

Under the scoring system you now mention, Player 1 (Div1) has beaten Player 2 and Player 3 so should have 6 points (?) but you've recorded 20 points for him... Am I missing something obvious?

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

No sorry that was my fault...originally i was thinking we would just accumulate the total games scored..so 10+10 = 20

But now im thinking the best approach would be if one players beats the other he gets 3 points and the loosing player gets 1 point

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

One more quick question, I still have no idea what sport this is but need to know if a tie is possible, or would there always be a winner?

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

Sorry for the delay. It would appear my boss wants me to actually do some work when I'm at work...

Anyway, now he's gone, attached is what I think you mean.
I've used helper columns as they make things easier to maintain.

I've made it obvious which ones they are and you can hide them for the sake of tidiness.

The second sheet used a small table for each division and allocates either 1 or 3 points depending on win or lose.

Let me know if it does what you need or if I've completely missed the point...

    Re: Sports Ladder Required

Thank you so much....looks great...i'll have a proper look at later myself when done with work :0)

I did just notcie that from Div 4 onwards though the labels across the across are going to 2,3,4,5,6,7,8.9,10....etc when i think all Divisions should be just 1-6...Its looks like the totals might be thrown off on those divisions
