how to keep references the same when copying into different areas

Hello. I've attached a sheet with details. I have references that I want to copy to a different cell but I want the reference to stay fixed AND allow the column to move. The spreadsheet will make more sense. Thanks.

Highlight the cell in the formula you want to lock down.

    hit F4

Any portion of the formula that has a $ in front of it will now stay the same as you copy and paste.

$A$1 - Will always stay the same.
$A1 - Will always keep Column A but will adjust the row as you copy downward.
A$1 - Will always keep Row 1 but will adjust the column as you copy between columns.
A1 - Will always change depending on your original reference point of the copy.

I know that, but that doesn't work for my example. Did you look at my example?

Yes I looked at it, and the way I'm understanding it is that you want to select D2:H2, copy that, then paste it into E4 (or from the highlighted cells, either starting at E3 or F4 so I'm not sure if your E4 was a typo). So the highlighted areas look exactly like that of row 2.

This is they way I'm understanding it... If this is untrue, then please provide how the final is suppose to look and I should be able to go from there.

Oh yeah haha. My fault. I gave a bad example. I have to think about this some more. Thanks.
