    Crossword puzzles

I have always compiled crosswords the hard way (pencil & paper). Excel seems to offer a more flexible approach. I have set up my grid in Excel but cannot in any given cell get the number of the clue in 10 point and the relevant letter in fourteen (the sizes are arbitrary but seem comfortable). Is there a work around for this - it would really help!

    Re: Crossword puzzles

Is this just to layout / print crossword grids? If so, why not add extra rows / columns, to allow the clue numbers to be separated from the letters - see attachment for an example. It's slightly more awkward to navigate and format, but the end result is a lot neater

    OllyXLS,

I did think of that, actually, but came to grief because I don't know how to produce intervening lines (in blue in your example) that do not show up in my resulting grid. I'm sure it's easy and equally sure I ought to know but I can't even frame a sensible question for Excel help!

So another clue (pun intended) from you would be of great value.

Okay The 'intervening lines' are the worksheet gridlines - these don't print, by default, and you can turn them off on your screen too (View > [ ] Gridlines)
