    Counting the number of times a date is entered

    I'd like help on the best way to count the number of times a date (mm/dd/yyyy) is entered in A1:A100.

    We tried =COUNTIF(A2:A100,"01/01/2012"). It only counts if the date is actually typed in as 01/01/2012 .... our dates are sequential from 10/15/2013 forward. What's the reasoning for starting at A2 instead of A1?

    And we didn't quite follow the second suggestion ....

    What's the reasoning for starting at A2 instead of A1? i should imagine none! its just an example adjust ranges to suit your data
