To start, I would get rid of the diagonal lines as they are very visually distracting. In addition, double entries in cells like that only complicate the calculations. This is evident in row 9 where you have A A. You want it to sum to 2 but you are getting 0. If you need a column for both AM and PM add a column for each day to take care of that or have a code for half days and another for full days.

I have to admit that I am not a fan of this type of record keeping as it is overly complicated for what it accomplishes. I think that to keep the basic data you are much further ahead using a sheet set up with a Date column, Name column, a column for absence type and a column for the time the absence starts and another for when it ends. With a setup more or less like that, you can use things like filters and Pivot tables to create many different reports as you need them.

Hi I have done that with the new version, but i am now trying to create pivot table for the info i hae got so far, however it puts alot of engineers under blank when i have merge the cells to show how many enigineers are linked to each team etc, can anyone rectify this for me.

or is there a better design to still get what i want from what i have created.

Can you re-post what you have to date? You mention merge cells. I hope that you are not merging cells as that will mess up any attempts at Pivot Table creation.
