Preserving/Changing folder structure when moving workbook

I was working on some different workbooks that are all connected and recently moved main folder/bunch subfolders to another partition, after opening random wbooks I realized that some links to another workbooks (folder structure in a link) were updated automatically and some weren't even though it's the same link to main database/cell?

If some1 is willing to help I would be grateful.

    Thanks.

Re: Preserving/Changing folder structure when moving workbook

I know that, I know how to change the source, but I don't want to update sources in 20-30 workbooks every time the main folder with workbooks is moved. I was asking how come some of the workbooks change folder structure in a link to a source automatically and some don't when files/folders are moved?

Re: Preserving/Changing folder structure when moving workbook

I would say this is the consequence of using link to other workbook. Ms Excel automatic change the source data automatically base on position of workbook you are moving to. I don't think we have some way to control it unless we use VBA to manage the link. But in this case you will need to manually control the link to workbooks which will not friendly for you.

So my suggestion is that you gather all link workbooks into same folder, so when you want to make a move you need to move the folder not only the workbook.
May be some other expert can have other solution, i will learn from it as well.

That's exactly what I did. Moved whole folder tree into another root (e.g. moved 20 folders (with connected Excel files inside those folder) from c:/temp to c:/) and every link to another workbook broke.
