Tab order between cells to force next row

Is there a way to specify tab order and tab performance within a worksheet? Specifically, I want my operators to enter data into a row, and then at the end of the row I want tab (or enter) to return to column A EVERY time, with no possibility of accidental screwup.

Each row will record a single QC check, and Col A holds the function =now() to timestamp the record.

I have operators who have very limited pc skills, and I am trying to change the way we capture in-process QC checks so that the data becomes more usable. I cannot depend on them to click into the next row to create a new record.

Thanks for any thoughts you may have,

    Alan

Set the Move after enter direction (Excel Options > Advanced > Editing Options) to Right, lock the cells where you don't want data entry, then protect the sheet, disallowing selection of locked cells.

When I reach the end of the row, this will force the return to A? The second part of the problem is how to make sure that A has the formula I need. Do I just "preload" this column with the function? Everything else in the row is direct raw data entry, but I want the timestamp to be system generated for consistency and to reduce the likelihood of an operator trying to game the sheet.

    Thanks again,

    Alan

    Did you try it?

make sure that A has the formula I need
Why would you want the selection to go to a cell containing a formula? Those would typically be locked, specifically to keep it from being changed.

Re: Tab order between cells to force next row

I'm trying to get Excel to mimic the Access "new record" functionality, with each row of excel data being a new quality record and A carrying the date/time for the record. By tabbing into (and through) the now() function, I'm trying to timestamp the new quality record. This is for operators who should be able to tab between fields and do data entry, but can't be expected to copy a row or otherwise manipulate excel. Using Access and creating a form is not an option, although this is how I've approached this problem in the past. If you've got a better way, I'm all for it!

Re: Tab order between cells to force next row

If cells with formulas are locked (as they should be), then Excel will tab to the first unlocked cell in the row.

I don't use Access, and so have no behavioral analog.
