    Conditional Formatting Using Prior Year Data

    Hi,

    I need help using conditional formatting to highlight cells. I want the 2013 January cell to look at the 2012 January cell. If the number in the 2013 January cell is 10% more than the 2012 January cell I want the cell to highlight red. If the cell is between 5 to 10% more than the 2012 cell I want it to highlight yellow. For everything less than 5% I want the cell left blank.

    2012 2012 2012 2013 2013 2013
    State Jan Feb Mar Jan Feb Mar
    A 1000 1100
    B
    C
    D

    I would also like this for the rest of the 2013 table then. Appreciate the help.

    Re: Conditional Formatting Using Prior Year Data

    Jose,

    The following CF rule will colour Cell E3 red is its value is greater than or equal to 110% of cell B3:

    =E3>=(B3+(B3*0.1))

    Click on Conditional Formatting in the ribbon --> New rule --> use a formula to determine which cell to format, then paste the formula above in the formula box. Click on format, select red fill, and "Ok" your way out. Do the same for other conditions, ie 5-10%.

    Hope this helps.
    Brendan.

    Re: Conditional Formatting Using Prior Year Data

    Thanks this worked perfectly. Would you happen to know how to use conditional formatting to make a cell bold if the prior two cells are sequentially lower? So for the table I have if Jan-12 is 1000, Feb 12 is 1100, and Mar-12 is 1200; I want the 1200 to be bold. Thanks for the help.
