worksheet is running VERY slow!

i have my excel sheet i have been building for about a week, and it is running so dreadfully slow that its almost not usable. validation takes 3-4 seconds to become available, and the entire sheet is built around validations, grouping, indexing and so forth. even when scrolling the sheet its delayed, the entire sheet is just completely slow. ive removed a lot of extra stuff and macros trying to get it to speed up but it seems like when an excel sheet decides its going to be slow, there is no reversing it. ive built more complex sheets than this one that were fine, any ideas? thanks

1st thing I look for is to shorten ranges to only what is needed (avoid column/row ranges...B:B)
reduce any Conditiona Formatting
try to avoid any array formulas (replace with helper columns perhaps)
simplify formulas
remove as many volatile formulas as possibe...if you use TODAY() a lot, put it in 1 cell and reference it, instead of having it in a bunch of formulas)

i am using excel for mac and the more i use it, the more i realize this isnt a well built version as most of my sheets function fine on a PC..

OK I have zero exposure to mac - excel or otherwise, sorry But the same improvement principals should apply
