If I erroneously saved over an excel document that is stored on an external drive, is there any way to restore the previous saved document, or am I screwed.
The thumb drive is plugged into a computer that gets backed up onto a network server, but I assume that the external thumb drive is not backed up with the c drive and r drive on the server.
feeling hopeless....
There's no such thing a "levels" of saved files within a single file. The only way to restore to a previous version of a file is to open a copy you have stored somewhere. Ever emailed this document? Has it ever been on another hard drive and deleted where you might use a program to undelete it? That's the only avenues I can think of.

That is what I was afraid of I did e-mail it and save on another computer over a year ago, so all 3+ years of data is not lost, but I have to recreate over a year of it. And, it was my budget/checkbook.
I GOT IT BACK!!!!!!
I opened Excel. Clicked File, Open, and selected the document I wanted to open. Next to the Open button is an arrow. I selected the arrow and then selected Open and Repair. Repair did not work, so next I tried Extract data then recover formulas. Everything came back, even the work that I worked on before I saved over it blank.
Whew, I am so relieved!
