How about you've got a column listing things many of which you know are the same - for your purposes - but which are often written quite differently?
Like a list of expenditures.
Including gas stations, supermarkets, say.
The gas stations may be listed like: BP this place - $10
Shell that place - $20
BP other place - $50
And the supermarkets: Woolworth here $100
Woolworth there $200
Coles other $112
IGA here $444
See what I mean?
Looking at the list you can see really well, really quick which things belong together.
But not so easy to program excel to know it.
It'd be good if I could just put the cursor down there and select the adjoining - even scattered - 'things that belong together' and get a total for them.
Select, copy, paste elsewhere do a Sum function - would that be the quickest, easiest?
