Question Ctrl + Shift + Page up or Page down selects worksheet tabs, but how to unselect?

I googled and perhaps I'm not wording this correctly, but I can't find the answer.

I can select multiple worksheets for selection by using ctrl + shift + page up or page down and then using alt+e+l to delete them. However, what if I select too many? How do I select less?

No keyboard shortcuts to deselect a specific sheet from a group of sheets.
CTRL+cursor_click seems to be the only option.
