    Corrupt file issue

    Hi,

I have created a file in Excel 2010 but saved it as a .xls, the file contains some marcos which allows users to enter information into a user form and print it at a later date.

Users with Excel 2003 can enter information into the form and then close the document perfectly. However, when they attempt to open the file at a later date (e.g. a day later) the file cannot open sometimes and they receive a 'Microsoft Excel Has Encountered A Problem... Attempting To Recover The File, etc.' message, other times the file opens but the message displays when a command button is clicked.

When I open the same file through Excel 2010 it opens fine and once I save it the user is able to open it without problem in 2003.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Re: Corrupt file issue

This can be a case of Compatibility issues. Excel 2010 is much much advanced version of Excel 2003. We can say Excel 2010 includes almost all (List has been replaced by Tables) of the features of 2003 but Excel 2003 doesn't include many of the advanced feature of 2010. This also includes the color codes available in 2010 which is not the same in 2003. So, files created in 2003 will be easily opened in 2010 but its not vice versa.

Basically, if you've provided certain conditional formatting, shapes, patterns or color styles to cells. These case might arise. Macros should be almost fine but only a few cases we've seen so far.

    Thanks codeslizer for the reply!

I suspected the same, because the form is been printed there was a lot of formating of cells, etc. I imported the macro into an Excel 2003 file and started the formatting for scratch again within 2003, hopefully this will have removed any advanced 2010 features.
