Invisible typing into cell

I have a much used Excel 2008 for Mac workbook that recently quit displaying characters in cells as I type them. They show in the formula bar as I type them then show in the cells when I hit "enter" but not until then. If double click on a cell with characters already in it in order to edit, the characters in the cell disappear... although they continue to be visible in the formula bar and I can edit there... then hit "enter" and the edited type shows up in the cell again.

I have checked conditional formatting and no conditional formatting is enabled.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are demonstrated, mock them up manually if needed. Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

GOT IT!

It is a workbook I leave open on my Mac for days at a time. I enter data on the workpages of the workbook many times a day. I save the changes I make frequently.

I just closed the workbook then reopened it. Now black type appears in each cell as I type it and I can now edit within the cell.

Problem solved.

Ahh! The joys of being a mac owner, looks nice in the bistro, but .... what else ...
