    Which test to use?

    Hi,

On MS excel, I usually use it to store categorical data for my experiments and simulations.

    1. I need to know how to compare CATEGORICAL DATA. I have 4 types of anesthesia applied to 3 different groups (a, b, c). What test do I use to test significance?

    2. One or Two-tail ANOVA?

I have 3 groups (a, b, c), and each one of them lost some water during my science experiment. A lost 200mL, B lost 194mL, and C lost 260mL. Should I be using one or two tail ANOVA to test for significance? Thank you so much.

    Re: Which test to use?

Your question is less about Excel and more about statistics. I'm not sure I'm enough of a statistician to answer your question.

I note that most discussion around ANOVA does not talk about one-tailed vs. two tailed. They frequently discuss one-way vs two-way vs n-way ANOVA (referring to the number of independent variables). I would probably suggest you start with a page like this https://www.statisticssolutions.com/...nalyses/anova/ that discusses what a basic ANOVA test is. Wikidpedia has entries for one-way and two way ANOVA along with an article on the F-statistic that may be useful (if they aren't too technical).

If you are looking at one-tailed vs. two tailed, this looks like an interesting article http://www.ats.ucla.edu/stat/mult_pk...tail_tests.htm

    Hope that helps.
