Question Which Statistics Package for Excel?

    Afternoon Forum,

I am looking to purchase a Statistics add-on for Excel, something like the Statistician package and was hoping to get fair reviews or suggestions on a comprehensive package. I have had a look online, and there are a number I am keen to trial. They seem to cover the same bases, albeit some are modularised rather than in a single package, but I thought I would ask for experiences and suggestions on packages.

I would rather a full featured package than a series of modules. I am looking to purchase.

    Thanks,

    Justin.
    Kind Regards

    - Justin

Have you looked at the free analysis pack that comes with excel. You need to install it via the addin tool
My approach to providing help is to help you to help yourself. So my answers won't always solve your problem, but hopefully you can learn enough to solve the problem yourself and be more self sufficient for the experience.

    Thanks for your reply Mallycat.

Yes, I have the analysis pack installed but if find that it is missing some of the statistics that I need. I require more specific scientific analysis, besides the extra plotting, data mining and statistical analysis tools that these commercial add-ins give. I use Excel an increasing amount of time at work, but I also use dedicated analysis and modelling software (from Minitab and JMP to Mathlab and Maple) which can be quite cumbersome for routine (but beyond Excel's Analysis Tool Pack) work. I think a lot of the everyday can be macro'd in Excel quicker than switching between programs and running code on different outputs. Particularly the stuff that I don't always need to look at, but require results to parse into other programs.

I downloaded three trial packs this afternoon, Statistician, NumXL and XLStat though after reading the features list and making a comparison I installed Statistician. I have to say that its quite impressive both in ease of interpreting the inputs and outputs, and the documentation is good too. Many of the tools I'm interested in are in the standard commercial version, but if they operate in the same way as the parts of the package I have used so far I will be happy. I will play with it again tomorrow and then make a purchase if there is no other suggestions.

    Cheers
