import text to same columns?

I use text to columns everyday at work. Each report that I insert is in the exact same formatting and spacing. So, I open the text file, and manually enter line breaks each time. Is there a way to import text into an already broken up table? Or a way to open a file and it recognizes where to break up the lines without me having to manually click them in each time?

Are you importing the text data? Use the Data tab then select From Text. You set up the columns and where you want to put the data. Once you have the connection set up, when the text file is updated with new data, you can select the Data tab and the Refresh All to update the spreadsheet.

It's a different text file every time, the same report just updated. And I like to keep the old ones to compare.

Also, I format the sheets the exact same way each time.
Meaning, Row K is always highlighted orange. Row J is always highlighted red. Row H always green.
I always enter =SUM(T27:V27)/AA$2 into cell W27
Always =W27*AB$2 into X27

etc etc

Is it possible to make life easier on myself? by not having to repeat all of these steps

Say I have a daily report, that is always the same. I would create todays text file and give it a generic name that will be the same, like DataReport.txt. Then set up my connection to import in excel to import to the specific columns. I would do all the formatting and formulas just once. When done importing, save the txt file as a new name such as DataReport071813.txt. Next day, I create my daily text file and name it DataReport.txt in the same location. Open my excel report, select Data tab, Refresh all. All the data should update leaving all your color formatting and formulas. Then save todays txt file as DataReport071913.txt. Then you will have a record of your text files by date. Your data connection is looking for a txt file in the same location, named the same.

Hi and welcome to the forum

You could probably set up a 2nd sheet to "import" your imported data, using a series of formulas. You could then just copy you data into sheet1 and sheet2 would do all the work for you.

However, in order to set something like this up for you, I will need to see a sample of your data
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
