    Embedded drop down list

    Hello everybody,

I was recently relocated at work and the job position I inherited had work done on a spreadsheet. In the spreadsheet several cells have drop down list (when a cell is selected, a down arrow appears with a list to choose things from). I am finding a few things of the dropdown list is incorrect. In Excel 2010, I click the data tab on the ribbon, then data validation, and in the settings tab, I see Allow is set to "list", Data is set to "between", but the source is not telling me where the list is.

My question is, how to find the list so I can edit the items that are incorrect. I do not need to delete anything, just edit.

Thank you all and any help that any body can give would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Embedded drop down list

It sounds like "between" is a named range. Go to Formulas tab, selct Name Manager and see if that name is in there. If it is, click on it and it will tell you where it is, so that you can go and find it to edit

    Re: Embedded drop down list

    Hello everybody,

I was able to view the items from the drop down list. I have been trying to edit the list and cannot seem to do it. How can I edit the list from the dropdown as I do not see the list anywhere.

Thank you in advance for any help that can be given.

If you are able to add items to the list, but they do not show up in the D/D, that probably means you need to adjust the length of the named range. Follow my instructions in post #2, and under "refers to", adjust teh range as needed

    Re: Embedded drop down list

Thank you for the reply. I am following the instructions and I see the information for the dropdown stating "=Lists!$A$1:$A$11".

The problem is, I don't see a "Lists" tab anywhere. In this list area are some of the mistakes I need to correct.

Sorry to be such a bother with this.

unfortunately, since it is a spreadsheet from work, it has work information in it, and that means I cannot upload a copy.

    No bother at all

Sounds like that sheet is hidden. Right-click on any tab and you should see an "unhide" option - click that and see if your missing tab is there?

That seems to have done it. Thanks a lot. I will leave this thread open for another day or two incase I come across something else.

    Thanks for everything.
