need to hyperlink multiple folders in excel to be burned in a CD

    Hi everybody,
I need to hyperlink a lot of folders in an excel file. I have the locations, folders and excel file ready then I used the Hyperlink formula and it worked but when we transferred the full Folder in a CD and used on a different PC, the link is not working anymore.
Would greatly appreciate any help on this.

it wouldn't because the cd drive can be assigned a different letter depending on how many other drives there are. you could use an input box to get the drive letter by user input with out an example to work off of it is impossible to create a viable solution

Re: need to hyperlink multiple folders in excel to be burned in a CD

I had to do that kind of thing for a commercial venture. The only reliable way that I found was to have all the files in a single folder if at all possible. The second most reliable organization was to have all the folders be branches off the same file path but not including the root directory as this could be on any drive when copied from the CD. The shorter the path the better.

A problem that you might be facing is that all files burned to a CD or DVD become "Read Only" and remain "Read Only" when copied back to a hard drive. To get around that you could archive the files using WinZip or like utility to create a self extracting archive. (in case the receiver of the file doesn't have the correct program to open the archive.) When the archive is opened, the structure that was archived will be re-constructed and the file links should work.

I found that linked files opened directly from the CD didn't work very well at all even when they did work. The main file would work pretty well but the linked files were another story.

is the excel file on the CD itself as well?
    if it is then

    Left(ActiveWorkbook.Path, 2)
can be used to replicate the drive letter
from there you can allocate hyperlink to drive

    alternatively
Microsoft have solution for finding CD drive letter but much more complicated
