Clear All vs. default font size

I'm currently having an issue with Clear All... which sets the font to Tahoma, size 11. Font is okay, but I have my default size set to 10. Everytime I Clear All on even a single cell, the row size increases from 13.50 to 14.25 (from 17 to 20 pixels). Any one know a fix, or means to otherwise prevent this from happening???

    Hi jhren,

What happens if you use ClearContents instead of clear all?

Clears contents, no change to format... just as expected.

Are you suggesting I use Clear Contents instead???

That's not a fix, but rather a workaround, and a not even half-baked one at that. I use Clear All to remove all formatting, too. If I use Clear Contents, I'll still be stuck with using Clear Formats... which changes font size, too.

    Regardless, thanks for the consideration...

Re: Clear All vs. default font size

    Hi jhren,

Looking up the ClearAll command or method, it looks like it was intended for Word, Publisher or Powerpoint. It looks like the intent was to clear all the printer formatting. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...ffice.11).aspx

I believe the ClearContents is more specific to Excel as ClearAll is an Office VBA type command.

I guess my answer is YES!! use ClearContents instead of ClearAll in your Excel VBA.

I'm talking about the Clear All command in the Ribbon... not VBA code.

Clear All resets the cell to style Normal, which may not have the same default font size that you have set in Excel options.

That's it... Normal style font size was 11. Changed to 10 and all's well.

    Thanks.

Re: Clear All vs. default font size

    Hi,

I just went to my File -> Options and changed the default font to 20. I had to close Excel and Open a new workbook for this to stick. I then changed the font in a single cell to 10 and typed in some text. I then selected a range that included this 10 font and did a RIBBON Clear ALL. The font size went back to 20. It sounds like this is the behavior you want.

It sounds like my changing my default font stuck and yours didn't. Where did you change your default??

Re: Clear All vs. default font size

I set my default the same way... but it has been a while. I hadn't noticed any problem until recently (last couple days), and only noticed in a workbook that I've put a lot of work into. Didn't notice in new workbooks. I'm wondering if the Normal style gets "confused" when I open files saved prior to changing default font and size (having had a different Normal style font size; should be a file specific setting) while I have this workbook open, or perhaps pasting from one of those files to this one...???
