Select the range in the name box and have a look.. Unless it's a dynamic range in which case use the function manager

Re: find dimensions of named range

    1. Select the Function Manager
    2. Select your dynamic range from the list
    3. Put you cursor into the formula display at the bottom.

............ Excel will highlight the range as it does when you copy

I still don't know if understand what you mean (because i dont know what you mean by the "function manager", google couldn't tell me either. Guess you mean the "formula builder"?), do you mean that i should:

in any cell in the same sheet as the named range is, type

and then that should highlight my range

Because I don't think that works when my named range is a VLOOKUP function, it highlights the array from which the vlookup is based (I think)

a vlookup function returns one result so not much to test as dimensions go ;-)

Not if you specify the function to return several columns..

    eg

will return a matrix/row vector of dimension 1x3

Didn't really find an answer to my original question, couldn't get your technique to work AndyLitch. I might be stupid or it's a mac thing. However, it's no longer an issue as my named range sorted itself out.

    Thanks for replies!

true-that's not really typical though (an INDEX/MATCH would be usual) so you might have mentioned it ;-)

anyway at least you have it working
