consecutive numbering from one workbook to another

Hi. I would like to fill cells in a column with consecutive numbers and then, in another workbook, automatically fill the first cell in a column with the next consective number. Is this possible and if so,how?

in the 2nd workbook, reference the range from the 1st workbook using =max()

That gives me the largest number from the first workbook. is there a way I can automatically fill in the largest number + 1, so that the numbering in the second workbook automatically starts with the next consecuting number?
