    Microsoft Excel has stopped working.

    Hi all!
I have one spreadsheet that I attach to emails frequently. Every time I upload it I get the Message "Microsoft Excel has stopped working, looking for a solution to the problem"
Also, sometimes, when I have one spreadsheet open and attempt to open another, I get the message "Not enough resources to perform the action" or words to that effect. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thank you. It is just one file. There are others I attach without this problem occuring. I would be happy to attach but as I am new to the forum I am not sure how to attach to the thread. May I send it in an email to you directly?

Re: Microsoft Excel has stopped working.

okay... so that means no instance of Excel opened that time.. correct ?
the only point I am thinking, when Excel is already closed and you are just attaching a file (it could be xls or doc or ppt or any other file type), how you are getting error as Excel stopped working - when it was not supposed to work even

Re: Microsoft Excel has stopped working.

Ah! Not quite. I didn't open the problem attachment when I attached it BUT I do have a different Schedule Spreadsheet open on my laptop ALL the time. Although the message says "Excel has stopped working", it then follows up with "Excel is trying to recover your information" and then "Excel is restarting". My fear is that one of these days, it will fail to recover and I will lose the data in the Schedule Spreadsheet. The Schedule Spreadsheet is 668kb in size, located on the same drive, in the same directory as the problem sheet, but in a different File Folder. Does that help?

Re: Microsoft Excel has stopped working.

can you close all Excel windows (even close excel from Task Manager which u get when you right click on taskbar) and try attaching once.

If still failed, zip that excel file and try attaching.

Let me know your test results.

Re: Microsoft Excel has stopped working.

Ok. I closed all spreadsheets, unpined XL from taskbar, sent an email to another address I have with the problem sheet attached. I did NOT get the message "Microsoft Excel has stopped working.
The email came through with the attachment which I then downloaded. THEN when I went to open it from the Chrome "downloads" bar I got the message "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources, choose less data or close other applications". Excel re-pined itself to the taskbar. There was nothing else in Excel open and the file is only 185kb! Thanks for your continued interest.

Re: Microsoft Excel has stopped working.

    this is getting interesting...
after downloading, you are opening that directly from chrome downloads window.. correct ?
Can you open that file by going to the location using windows explorer and then 1) double click to open that 2) first open excel and then open this file by pressing ctrl + O from excel window .. did you found any difference or the same error ?

Re: Microsoft Excel has stopped working.

Step by step, my second test after your last post.
I sent the test email to another email account with the file attached. It came through in Chrome.
I clicked "open in a new tab" and I was asked to save which I did to desktop.
The download bar in chrome came up and I clicked "open". The file opened with no error message this time and Excel was still unpined from the taskbar.
Next I closed the file and unpined Excel again.
Then, I did (1) above and it opened fine no messages.
Then I unpined Excel again from the taskbar.
Then I went to All Programs, found Microsoft Home Office & Student (English), expanded it and clicked on Microsoft Office 2010 and got the message "Click-2-Run configuration failure"
When in All Programs, I noticed I have still got Microsoft Office Excel 2007, although I use 2010. Could that be a problem?
    Thanks again

    HI Miramar,

Seems like Excel installation issue, can you close all instances of Excel from Task Manager and try again.

right click on Task bar -> Start Task Manager -> under "applications" tab, close all excel
    and,
under "Processes" tab, close all excel
    and try testing once again.
