1.1 Million Data Points that need to be sorted

I have a large file of 1.1 million rows.

Each row contains information for a single user in 4 columns. The columns are:

    First | Last | Zip | State |

My problem is that I need to format the information so that each row (or user information) becomes 2 rows and 2 columns. For example. The layout above would become:

    First | Last
    Zip | State

I need to do this for 1.1 million rows of user information.

Is this possible in excel and if so, how would I go about doing it?

Well, there aren't that many rows in an Excel sheet, so you would either have to use other columns on the sheet to spill into, or use multiple sheets to take the overspill.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Pete,

Thanks. I won't need the information to display on a single sheet. It can be thousands of sheets if necessary. I just need to figure out how to format 1.1 million rows the way I need it.

The attached file shows how you can do this onto a second sheet. I've put some mock-up data on Sheet1, and on Sheet2 I put this formula in A2:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

Copy this into B2, then copy both formulae down as far as you need to. Then you could fix the data and delete Sheet1.

    Hope this helps.
