    arranging data

I have two columns: Column A and Column B.

    1. First I will fill column A with data, top to bottom. Each cell in the column will have a combination of numbers and letters(these will be item numbers associated with physical retail items)

    2. Next I will add data in Column B top to bottom. Each cell will have a combination of numbers and letters (these will be item wholesale re-order numbers which must be always matched to their specific retail number just to it`s left in the spreadsheet in column A)

Here is what I have to do:

    3. First, I have to download the retail numbers IN RANDOM ORDER into a new spreadsheet into a new column A.

    4. Next I want to paste column B(see step 2 above) into a new column B in that same new spreadsheet ,just to the right of the new column A(random retail numbers) that I downloaded in step 3.

Here is the results I want to end up with:

When I paste the wholesale numbers column to the right of the RANDOM retail numbers, I want the retail numbers and wholesale numbers to re position themselves somehow so that the retail numbers in the left column and the wholesale numbers are now matched to their proper retail numbers.

I really do appreciate any help you could give me with this..Thanks so much!

Sounds like you might be interested in the VLOOKUP function. See Excel help for details on how this works.

    Re: arranging data

I think VLOOKUP is going to be a much better option here... see my attached sheet for an example.

If you create a Master List sheet with all item numbers matched with their re-order numbers, then you can pull the re-order numbers from that sheet easily into any other sheet as I have done.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Wow!.. Thanks so much.

I am positive this will work.. can`t wait to try it!

I have approximately 2000 lines of information to sort in this fashion weekly and the list grows weekly.
