Have letters represent numbers but a little more complicated

I have an understanding of how to have letters represent numbers in a formula but I'm looking to do something a little different. Example: It's sort of a coding system for currency. I have an "S" representing a 1, "L"=2, "E"=3, "P"=4, and so on till 0-9 are accounted for(all with different letters). Now I would like to be able to enter EPL(or epl case sensitivity doesn't matter to me) and have excel understand that as $3.42. And PS would be $0.41 and so on. Eventually if this is possible I will enter all of the codes in one column with quantity in the next column and multiply to get a total amount. If I didn't explain it well enough but you think you can help please comment and I will try to explain it another way. Thanks!

Re: Have letters represent numbers but a little more complicated

I was going to actually assign the letters to numbers for this but I kept getting some error for two of them. So I decided to just put the letters with the numbers equal to them. I think this is what you were looking for.

Thanks for the split and expecting some more inputs.

    1) Please provide some Text and the expected Numeric Values
    2) Your example Text should have Decimal Places Also (To understand how you are going to differentiate the decimal places)
