    i want to get average value of ( No of RO s raised ) of similar part number.

    i want to get average value of ( No of RO s raised ) similar part number. ex - part number 43 - avg should be 2 .
    so i want part number agaist avg value .
    part number 43 avg 2
    68 4.5
    thats what i exactly want. check following list. can anyone sort it for me. cos i hv 10 000 itmes to sort

    Why would 68 be 4.5 - from your sample it looks like it should be 3

    Perhaps try AVERAGEIF function

    How do you get this ?
    part number 68 avg 4.5

    In your sample list the count of each item is the same as the No of ROs raised, and this value doesn't change for any one item.
    All you have provided is a list of duplicates ...

    Thanks guys.. and marcol i think got correct idea. your first table in excel sheet is rite. All i want is for ex -
    410 X-RAY SURVEY MODEL METER 8
    410 X-RAY SURVEY MODEL METER 8
    410 X-RAY SURVEY MODEL METER 8
    then average should be 8 . ( 8+8+8)/3 = 8 and frequency 3 and delete duplicate. result should be like this
    410 X-RAY SURVEY MODEL METER 8 ( average ) 3 (frequency- number of times and there are 3 times of 410 )

    AND SORRY . 68 AVG SHOULD BE 3 . IT S A MISTAKE
