Cells linking but not linking

Hi
I'm knew to this forum and i don't know exactly how to phrase my problem so please bare with me. I have a worksheet to keep count of stock for a business, it includes a column for how much is left in stock, and total sold over the year. What i would like to do, is everytime the number sold is incresed, i want the number in stock to decrease by the same amount. So I want them linked, but not linked, because one column says how many left in stock and the other total sales for that product, so when one is sold, the stock goes down one, hope this makes sense

Do you want same cell (cell containing stock number) to decrease or do you want to do it using formula in another cell?

Ok so ive got those 2 columns, what i want to do: when the number in the second column is incresed the number in the first column should decrease by the same amount, im not sure this is even possible though

let me try again:-

Case 1) : cell containing 80 can be changed to 90 .. i.e., second column increased AND cell containing 4 can be changed to 2 i.e, first column decreased

Case 2) : after 80, you can enter 90 in new cell (second column increased) and after 4, you can enter 2 in new cell (first column decreased)

Which case is fitting in ?

thanks, thats not what i ment exactly though, its really hard to explain. I need the numbers in the two columns to be comletely different, just that if the number in the seconed column changes, the number in the first should change by the same amount,
ok for example
Number in stock: 3 Number Sold:60 (this would be over a long period of time)

Ok, now the number sold is manually changed to 61
what i want to happen is that the number in stock should then decrease to 2
Thats what i mean by cells linking but not linking, changes by the amount the other cell changes

okay.. and how did you arrived at 2 ?
And also now you need overwriting in the same cell.. but what if the stock is less in number as compared to what has been sold. for example stock can be 5 but sold can be 9, now how do you want to accommodate it ? thanks.

The number sold is the number sold over a year, the number in stock is the number in stock at the moment, what i want is for excel to update automaticly, if i increase the number sold, i got 2 cos if it goes 60 - 61 its a difference of 1, 1 lost from stock so 3 goes to 2. And if say 5 in stock and the number sold goes up 9, well that wouldnt happen cos u couldnt sell more than u have in stock

okay got it.. so you need the information to be changed in the same cell, then no formula / no linking can help in this case. .. and you need VBA (macro) solution.
