Want to use Mini-iPad with [Excel on my desktop]

Ooops; I had started this in "Hello". Sorry.

So where should I post my question? General Excel? my desktop is normal PC with Windows 7.

And my question will be on how to get my Excel "read" by my Mini-iPad; yes, I have "Numbers" on my iPad AND on my PC. And of course "Numbers" does NOT work on the PC by design.

For example; I have an Excel test sheet prepared for that purpose that I KNOW it works on my PC.

    thx,

One suggestion is to use TeamViewer. That gives you remote access to your desktop where you can run Excel.

Thanks. I'm not familiar with that, but will investigate it and try to become familiar with it.

However, it's SUPPOSED to be fully communicative as is..... with "Numbers" on both, and Excel on my PC desktop..... so I'm trying to take advantage of what I already have; just have to learn HOW to "do it".

The Mini-iPad has a thing call "Synchronize" when when plugged into my PC's USB; synchronizes all that is necessary, but alas, it seems to be only synchronizing my music, which is "nice", but not necessary at this point. I WANT EXCEL/Numbers to work on it : )

If/when you get it to work, please let me know. The reviews for Numbers on the Apple Store are still poor. £6.99 isn't a lot of money, I know, but a waste if it just doesn't work.

Latest update says "improved compatibility with Excel" ... but I'm not sure what exactly that means. If I could try it and see the compatibility, maybe I' d give it a go.

Here in the USA it's getting GREAT verbal reviews as one of the best, if not THE best for Excel users, so I've got confidence in that, but I'm WAY OVER 70 and do have the "intuitive" skills that other users have so just gotta learn HOW TO press the right buttons and tap the proper icons, ha.

Follow this thread; I'm thinking that somebody here will know how.

    Good luck to you too.

    Value
At $9.99, iPad Numbers is probably worth the price, though it does require a bit more consideration for each individual user than what was required for Pages.

It seems more basic than Pages, and the iPad version of Numbers doesn't as closely mirror the power and functionality of Microsoft Excel as does Pages with Microsoft Word.

Because of the export limitations, I can't recommend it as highly to Microsoft Excel users as I can to those who use Pages on the Mac.

    Conclusion
While not quite matching the runaway success of the Pages word processor, Apple Numbers is a useful basic spreadsheet app for the iPad.

Its usefulness is, however, seriously hampered (at least for Windows users) by the fact that the only export options are for the desktop version of Numbers or PDF, with no Microsoft Excel option. For that reason I think of Numbers more as a spreadsheet viewer than as a fully-fledged spreadsheet application; there's no way to get my documents out of Numbers in an editable format for my computer without jumping through a lot of extra hoops like exporting to PDF and then using another utility to convert from PDF to Excel.

If you're already using Numbers on a Mac, iPad Numbers is likely a no-brainer purchase for you. If you're a "PC" and are stuck firmly in the Microsoft Office world, Numbers on the iPad will be of limited utility to you.

    WOW WOW WOW .............

That is the REASON I purchased my Mini-iPad; to do my EXCEL work when away from my Desktop at home.......

I paid $460 plus plus plus for this 16G with 4G communications for that VERY REASON.

Hoping some iPad lovers can jump in and say that that article has been updated to show that "Numbers" and the iPad HAVE BEEN updated....................

    Strugling with dis-belief right now.

    thx,

Maybe take a trip to the Apple shop and get them to demonstrate it.

The article is a couple of years old and the updates do say it has improved compatibility. But, being realistic, if it were that great I'd expect to see a lot of positive, no ... rave reviews about the product.

I'd hope to see iPad owners jumping on the thread with their input ... but, not yet.

Thanks Martin, not great news then. Some options but no perfect solution.

With Office 2010, you save Excel workbooks online using WebApps and open them in a browser. Alot of the functions still work in the browser or you can download at any computer running Excel.

Not a perfect solution here also because the OP is using XL 07.

Personally, I'm waiting for the Windows 8 version of the mini iPad to come out. It's bound to happen sooner or later.
