Problem with Conditional Formatting

I had one large sheet with a number of related items such as "kindred 6210" which has two entries 6210014 and 6210040" in the attached example.

I decided to make each kindred its own sheet, so I copied each data set related to that kindred to its own sheet.

Now when I make an entry that should have triggered a response such as turning a cell in the "contact column" red when an "N: is entered, nothing happens, the cell remains colorless.

The instructions are still there in "managing conditional formatting" rules, but none of the several that are there work. The same holds true for all the "new" sheets.

Anyone know why? Could certainly use your help.
