Conditional Formatting with Data Bars - Based on Completion Percentage

I'm looking to have a cell or data bar fill up based on a completion percentage. If the completion percentage is 50% it should be half full, etc. Does anyone have a solution to this. I can't seem to figure it out by just using a data bar and percentage values of 0 to 100. I'm probably not understanding how they are really utilized.

Re: Conditional Formatting with Data Bars - Based on Completion Percentage

I want to have the data bar change in one cell based on the percentage in that cell. If the cell is 15% the data bar shows 15% of the cell full and so forth. I'm not sure its possible without the value being compared to other cells values if that makes sense.

That is how mine is set up. I didn't compare any values. Just selected the range and allowed Excel CF to do the rest.

I want one single bar that fills up based on the percentage in that bar. There is only one cell, not multiple. I think I'm trying to use the data bars incorrectly.

from what I can see, if you only have 1 value/bar that you want to display, then only use/CF that 1 specific cell the way that Moo suggests. then just enter whatever value you want in that cell
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Unfortunately if you have one cell and use a data bar it doesn't seem to fill up and be accurate based on the percentage in that cell. If you put 100% it shows only 50% of the cell filled.

Re: Conditional Formatting with Data Bars - Based on Completion Percentage

OK, I think I have this figured out for you... enter 15% (or .15 and format as percent) in a cell.

Select Conditional Formatting :: Data Bars :: More rules...
Change 'Shortest Bar' to 'Number' and enter 0
Change 'Longest Bar' to 'Number' and enter 1
Click OK.

You should now have a single-cell data bar that actually corresponds to the percent within just that cell.

So I figured the same thing out about ten minutes after you posted this, haha. Sorry to make you go through the work, but hopefully you learned something as well.

How do I mark this as SOLVED?
