I get a message that Excel cannot open ND.xlsx because the file is corrupted or the extension does not match the type of content.

Re: Memory usage high for some excel files

I don't know the answer, but the file is about 817K, and when I open it in Excel it adds 24M to working memory. I opened it and closed it several times, leaving the Excel application open, and checked the delta. This is strange because I don't any any data or formulas or anything else in the file other than 75 empty worksheets. I built a reference file to add and remove an arbitrary number of worksheets, and when I add 250 worksheets it doesn't cause a measurable blip in memory use.

The book does not seem to be truly empty because when I CTRL-END on each worksheet, it goes to L21 or L24. I thought this could be what is sucking up the memory but I am not familiar with the internals of Excel and how it stores metadata and manages memory. My experience in general is that empty cells do not drive up the memory footprint. I used a macro to delete all rows from every sheet, closed, and reopened the file. It didn't make any difference.

So I am sorry but I can't help.

Yes you are right... There was some data up to L21. Only words in cells. The file size was 1.08 mb, and after I delete all rows and columns from all sheets, the size reduced to 816KB.
