    Excel seems very limited

Trying to open more than two or three spreadsheets generates error messages, first Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other apps. Then, Excel found unreadable content in "File name". Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click YES. If I shut down Excel and then open just that file, it opens normally. I am running MS Office Home and Student 2010 under WIN 7 64 bit on an HP Workstation with 8 GB RAM, and have no other resource problem with any other apps. Could this be a 32/64 bit issue? Any good ideas would be welcomed.

Those issues appear to be system or computer issues, not Excel issues.
Have you rebooted your computer lately?

    Hi

I doubt it would be 32/64 issue other wise you would have a problem with every file. You have twice the memory I have and I have just opened 25 workbooks no problem. If everything else is ok its not a corrupt page file. However it could be your printer driver as excel uses the printer driver to draw the screen. Try and install a lazerjet printer driver and see if that will solve your problem.

    Ron,

re-booted multiple times. Trying a new laserprinter driver suggested by Chris.

    Re: Excel seems very limited

I have an older machine with only 2G of memory and W7 and I see problems like this when I open a large number of applications, including a few Excel files, at the same time. A similar symptom is when Word tells me there are not enough resources to display all of the content (or words to that effect). When memory utilization gets up over about 60% sometimes this happens. When I close Excel, then close unused applications, and restart Excel, it resolves.

I am not sure why you would be running out of memory with 8G, but next time you experience this open up Task Manager and see what the utilization is.
