Question Questions about permissions and SkyDrive to manage sports league schedule/result

    Hello everyone,

I have a follow-up question in regards to my volleyball sports league spreadsheet that I'm making public on Skydrive.

I need team captains in this league to go online and enters scores from the schedule, etc. I was hoping I could just create a list of the team captain's emails and give them all a password. Since the workbook is already in my public folder all members of the league are able to view it if they have the link, which is good.

I'm not sure I can do this. It seems my sharing options on Skydrive are limited to sending select users a special link and saying 'recipients can edit'. Basically it's LINK BASED permissions which I don't think is a generally good idea since links are easily (and accidentally) shared, and PROFILE-PASSWORD BASED permissions are more secure.

Anyone know if I have any other options using Skydrive?

    Thank-you!

I don't use Sky Drive to share files. I do use DropBox. Set up the folder you want to Share with a listing of emails to share it with. Drop box will send them an invite and BINGO. All can access the file.

Well, Dropbox doesn't allow users to edit the file within the browser, so that's why I think I'll have to go that route.

If each party has drop box installed on their machine, you open the file on your personal machine and it synchronizes with each copy when each person logs onto the internet. No need to access the file through the browser.

Does that work even when using smart phones to edit data? Also requires each team captain to have and install Dropbox?

Yes it does require each to have a dropbox account. As to smart phones, I have an iPhone and I can look at files, but I can't edit excel files. I don't know about androids.

Well, thanks anyway. It's really too bad that the files can't be edited on a mobile device. I'll guess we'll just stick to "proper" computing devices.

Interesting what is about to happen in the spring. This may allow you to do what you want, at a price of course.
