Excel editing/ replacing data in a column

Hi guys,

I can extract a spreadsheet and the issue is the the date in the Excel file is in format 20121031. Could you please advise how could I replace the column as 31/10/2012 or 31.10.2012? Which formula should I use?
I'm doing merge mail from it so if it is possible to amend this in the Mergefield in Word would be best.
