Data Validation List Handle Dissappear

A spreadsheet we're developing contains a number of user input fields that contain selection lists using Excel data validation lists. Somehow, the pull-down handles that shows when a cell is the active cell are now not showing. All the settings in the data validation settings are still the same, Excel still performs the data validation properly but you can't get to the pull-down menu. Can anyone suggest how we might have done this to ourselves? Better yet, can anyone tell us how to restore the pull-down menus?

Click on the Office button, select Excel Options, select Resources and the click on "Run Microsoft Office Diagnostics".
