How many if scenarios can I write in Excel 2003

I'm trying to write 8+ if scenarios in Excel 2003, however it won't let me write a 9th, any ideas?

    The formula is as follows

    =if(A1=1,"1",if(A1=2,"2",if(A3=2,DP1&DP2,if(A3=3,DP1&DP3),if(A4=3,AP3&AP4,if(A3=4,AP3&AP5,if(A6=1,CP4,if(A6=-1,CP4,""))))))))

Welcome to the forum psycho! < there's a sentence I never thought I would type...

As you've experienced, Excel caps the number of IF statements that can be combined in one formula. To get around this (and to improve performance) use a lookup table to populate your cell based upon a predetermined relationship. I'm sure many of us out here would be willing and able to help with this if you post a sample workbook.
