2 lists of names to look for matches with different formats

I have attached an example to explain my problem. I have 2 sets of names to compare.

1 list sets out the first and last name.

The second list combines first and last name along with the possability of a middle initial/name, with or without a "." at the end (which I have no control over since different people put it into the system differently).

I am looking for a way to figure out which names on the check against list also appear on list 1

Right now I am just using a vlookup to tell me which last names appear on the lsit and manualy checking but there are several hundred names so this would help save me a lot of tedious work.

I'm still stuck trying to make this work if any1 has any ideas. The middle name/initial possability is killing me
