    Cut and paste overwrite

    Quick outline


    Data in cells A1 and B1
    A2 B2

    and on

    also have data in E1 and F1
    E2 and F2
    and on

    If I am copying the data from E1 and F1 and pasting it into A3 and B3 but there is data present what I wanted to do was move the data from A3 and B3 that I am about to overwrite to E1 and F1 as in the location that I am copying that data from

    any thoughts or pointers

    drbig,

    If you need to save the data in the location you are about to write to (ie column A), I would suggest you copy and paste it to some blank cells, before copy/pasting from column E to column A, then copy/paste the data you moved from column A into column E. If it's a big spreadhseet, you could always insert some new columns near column E to hold your data, then delete these columns when finished.

    or not allow you over write the data if it's not null

    In the end used some VBA code to swap the cells and assigned it to a ctrl key

    Welcome to the forum.

    Based on your last post it seems that you solved your problem but you haven't marked your thread as SOLVED.
