    Conditional Data validation

I have a table that I want to create a Data Validation for (as attached). When I select one main heading I would like to have the option of choosing any one of the sub-items that fall under this category. How can i do this? And is it possible in the selection cell to show both the description and the values?

For example, In one cell I know how to create a data validation that has the list of the main headings (I to VI).
Once I select say VI (Natural Stream Channels), I would like another cell to have a drop down box where I can choose Flood Plains-Cultivated Areas-No Crop from all the sub-items and obtain the value of 0.035 (the average of 0.03 and 0.04).

Hi K - I can convert this to Excel data, but what I really need to know is how to proceed from there.

Yes it is possible to select one item and it trigger a change in the data validation selection of another cell.

However, if you want to select something and return something else in the same cell, this would require a macro.

This link will probably help with what you need: http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal02.html
