Formula treating cell reference as text

    Hello everyone,

I've inherited a workbook and am trying to update the references in a series of formulas. When I do this, the formula reads the cell reference as a text input. The original formula is ="*"&C1&"*" and outputs a value of *11910345* (C1=11910345). When I try modify the formula to ="*"&D1&"*", the output is *D1* instead of *11913823* (D1=11913823).

Both the workbook and worksheet are unprotected and 'Show Formulas' is not selected. I've tried overwriting the old cell reference with the new, deleting the old formula and retyping with then new reference (both by selecting with the mouse and manually typing the reference). Even if I change the formula to just =D1, the output is D1.

I am at a loss. Any suggestions why I am getting this behavior?

Thank you in advance for your assistance
