Sort Excel 2010 Table by Headers

I have no idea why this is such an issue, but I can't seem to sort 2010's table by the headers (horizontally - left to right).
I can sort a simple matrix of cells that looks like a table, but as soon as I use Excel 2010's built in table feature to sort by the headers, the header option is grayed out as well as going into options and sorting left to right.

Does anyone have an inkling of an answer? I'd prefer not to remove the table feature as I'm using it for named ranges (which would change all of the names).

    Here's my actual Excel 2010 Table: Excel2010Table.jpg.

Here's my Excel 2010 matrix (simply a copy and paste of my Excel Table): Excel2010Matrix.jpg.

And if you don't know what I mean by the difference between the table and matrix, please ask.
    Thanks!

By the way, in case you think that I didn't at least try and hit ok:

In the drop down menu where it says CompactLogix for the table sorting, it simply gives me the options between all of my different table headers. This sorts each column in accordance with the sorting variability of that specific header that I choose.
What I'd actually like to do is sort all of my headers in alphabetical order form left to right. Now, of course I could simply cut and paste each header manually, but I have nearly 50 headers and that would be quite the time consuming task, especially considering Excel should be able to do this for me!

Keep in mind: this does work if I convert my table to a range, but why should I have to do that? Shouldn't I be able to sort my table as if it were any other set matrix?
