Drop down list - completing without clicking each drop down box on a large spreadsheet

    Hi,

I'm a relatively new user to excel, I mostly deal with data entry but I am hoping someone has a way of speeding up a regular task of mine:

I've been given a several hundred line spreadsheet to complete, most of the data I can input directly from my in house system via simple copying and pasting. However there is one column that has a drop down list, which has 2 options requiring a response (Accept, decline). My question is - rather than manually clicking each drop down list/box, is there a way I could for instance add a column next to it with a value of 1 for accept, and 2 for decline which I could then use to change the result in the drop down box column next to it?

I have to leave the spreadsheet in the original format when completed so I'm not sure I can mess with the contents of the drop down list/box itself.

Many thanks in advance if anyone can help.

sure. Assuming "accept" or "decline" in column B and dropdowns in column A, enter this formula in column A:
    =IF(B1=1,"accept","decline")

    fill down as needed.
