Insert a colour in a cell

Any ideas if a cell has a date before today's date can it go red or whatever colour to highlight it

Look into how to use conditional formatting.

If for example the cell in question was A1, enter the conditional formatting formula of =A1<TODAY() and choose the formatting you need. Simple as that
