    Characater count on excel spreadsheet

    Hello,
    I was wondering if there is anyway to set an character count limit/alert in current column/field of an excel spreadsheet. For example everything in column "B", every single cell/field character should not pass 50 characters including spaces. Also is there any way to put an live character check while entering content in the cell, like as i type with my keyboard the live character decrease or increases. If this is not possible, does anyone know of any free software/tool that does all or most of this? I'll appreciate it thanks.

    Did you check the possibilities of datavalidation?

    Excel 2007 => data => datavalidation.
    Notice my main language is not English.

    I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.

    "<<Type text into this cell and press enter Then look at Data Validation on the Data Tab"?

    Find the word "DATA" near the top of the Excel window between "Formulas" and "Review"

    Hmm... I'm still confuse by what you mean. That link above provided sent me to an removing ribbon menu for microsoft word.

    Hi,

    I'm assuming you are looking at Excel version 2010. On the top there are words of:
    File, Home, Insert, Page Layou, Formulas, Data, Review, View, ... etc
    I WANT you to left mouse click on the word DATA from the list above.
    This will then show different ribbon icons. These icons are in GROUPS. In the group called DATA TOOLS is one called "Data validation".
    Click on this one with my attached workbook open.

    This is what I mean when I want you to open the Data Validation dialog.

    This should get you close to what you are asking for.
