    Excel slow to respond..

    Hi,

I have a workbook which has 4 worksheet linked to the main worksheet,Basically a data entry book which we used to update regularly by saving
as changing the date and creating a new book from the old one..suppose we need to update today's status we usually go to 6th book and save as
to the 7th and make the changes, such is the process so when we are making the 9th or 10th workbook those books are very slow to load, respond and taking ages to move the cursor from cell to cell.we used to copy paste values in the sheet..if your trying to copy paste on 9th or 10th book
it will take at least 3-4 mts to paste..because of this I've a make a new sheet after 3-4 days and copy all those formats and formula's from the
    old sheets.im using office 2007 and i'm having validation lists,a macro(IS ERROR)..

    Any Suggestions Please..

    Thanks,
    Ak

    Re: Problem With Excel 2007

First question: if you're using Excel 2007, what does the ISERROR MACRO do? Please post the code.

Second question: do the input sheets have rows pre-populated with formulae? If so, how many rows?

Third question: how big is the workbook when it starts out on day one? And how much does it grow with each save? How big is it at day nine?

I suspect size is important here so we need to understand what causes the size and growth.

A sample workbook would be useful; no need for lots of real data, just a small sample in a typical "empty" workbook.

The workbook was created with exel 2003 so just continuing that..the file size was 3mb and it grows up to 4.5 after 3-4 days..cant upload the sample file coz it's coming 2.5mb even though i deleted 80% of data..

    Thanks,

    Re: Problem With Excel 2007

The MP-MASTER sheet seems to be full of nothing. If you press Ctrl-End, it goes down to cell J65536.

Page down to cell A201 and then select all rows down to the bottom of the sheet (Row 65536). Delete all the rows selected, save and close the workbook. You should find it is much smaller.

    See attached updated example.

    Re: Excel slow to respond..

The workbook appears to have links to an "old" workbook ... DAA-04-07-09.xls. If this shouldn't be the case, it might help if you change the source to the current workbook.

I would also go through each sheet and do a Ctrl-End to go to the last cell. Go below by a couple of rows and then delete the content, although there should be nothing there. Then check the format of the cells - remove borders, fill colour, conditional formatting, etc. Then *delete the rows*. Do the same with the cells to the right of the data ... delete any content, delete any formatting and then delete the columns.

Basically, I am recommending confirming with Excel that the only data is the data you think you should have, that is, in the top left quadrant ... with no residual formatting.

Other than that, I can't think of anything else.

    See attached updated example.

You're welcome. Thanks for the reps.

Just out of interest, has the size of the workbook reduced much?

    Regards, TMS

Ah, excellent. It's obviously difficult to imagine what is a "reasonable" size based on a sample but that's a big improvement.

    Cheers, TMS
