    Personal workbood help

First post and not sure if this is the correct forum.

I need help with my personal workbook. I have excel 2010 on my work computer. To use my personal workbook macros it had to open when I opened excel. I accidentally saved my personal workbook as another file and it was opening when I opened excel but I had all my macros. Something happened to my pc and they had to restore my profile. When they did that my personal workbook was not opening and I couldn’t use my macros. I looked and researched how to open the workbook when I opened excel but couldn’t find anything. This is where it got bad. I went in and deleted the file that was my personal workbook. Now I cannot record macros to my personal workbook.

In my local disk c/users/myname/appdata/roaming/Microsoft/exel folder I have a folder named personal 302403933728469373, a folder named XLstart, an exel file named 2012-01-04 (version 1), a folder excel4xlb and excel file named personal (version1).

In my XLstart folder I have a file named personal.

When I try to save a macro to the personal workbook I get the message “Personal macro workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording.” Even when I open the personal file in xlstart I can’t record a macro to the personal workbook. Nobody I have talked to at work knows anything about this. Really really appreciate what ever help you folks can give me.

    Hi,

Which of those files on your local disk is the newest?

Difficult to comment with any certainty given all the history that you describe but the first thing I'd try is open the Personal.xlsb workbook and if you can read the macros copy them to a text file?
Then copy your \xlstart\personal.xlsb somewhere else and delete it in case it's corrupted.

Then start to record any old macro and choose to save the macro in the Personal Workbook. Close and re-open Excel and see if you get the same message.

If not Open the Personal.xlsb file then open the text file and copy the macros back into the Personal workbook.

    PS.
Responses are not guaranteed. This is not a paid for service with a service level agreement. It may just be that no one quite understands what's gone on with your system (understandably).

It's a Saturday - a day off for most people. Have some patience or pay someone for help. This is a free forum so bide your time.
    Hope that helps.

Perhaps no one understood what a "personal workbood" is. If you can't be bothered ensuring the accuracy of your title others may not be bothered to respond.

So important that he can't be bothered to answer Richard's questions. I would suggest banning him - if he comes back he will cause trouble.
