Highlighting the maximums in multiple ranges within a column

    Hi all,

I have a large data set that needs only certain data pulled out. I want to highlight the highest value Unique ID for a particular Referral Number, so visually it is as follows.

    Unique ID Referral
    4241 1020471
    4242 1020471
    4243 1020471
    4270 1020471
    4271 1020471 <- Want this one
    2606 1020476 <- Want this one
    3850 1020477
    3851 1020477
    5445 1020477 <- Want this one

Is this possible? Thank you in advance of your replies.

If your data is in columns A:B and is sorted as above, then you can use a formula in C2:

    =IF($B2<>$B3,"X","")

    copied down

or if you want to highlight.

    Select A2:B (bottom row)

and invoke conditional formatting , use formula to determine which cells to format and enter formula as:

    =$B2<>$B3

and select colour after clicking Format
Where there is a will there are many ways.
