When I set a print area, dotted lines appear, although they don't seem related to the print area I set. In any case, even when I clear the print area, the lines remain. How do I remove them? Thanks!

That sounds unusual. Does that happen in just one file or all? Do you have the latest Service Pack installed? Is your printer driver up to date? Can you post a sample file that shows the behaviour?

Vertical? Horizontal? Are they the Page Break indicators?

Latest service pack is installed, drivers up to date, etc. I just discovered that when I close the file, then reopen it, the lines are gone. As you say, very strange.
If you do a Print Preview, what do you see? How many pages? Where do they split?
I don't see them in print preview. What happens is that as soon as I choose a selection to print, then go to print and choose print selection, vertical and horizontal lines appear in the spreadsheet, but are outside of the print area. And, again, if I close the file, then reopen it, the lines are gone.
If you press Ctrl-End, which cell is selected? Is it beyond the print area?
To reiterate an earlier question, is it just this workbook/worksheet? And the request; please post a sample workbook that exhibits the problem. And maybe a screen print of what you're seeing.
This may be a screen rendering issue. Is this a file that was originally created in 2007 or earlier? Some of those can be buggy.
